I wonder if Clinton would have chosen differently if, for example, Warren had been from a swing state. Kaine is a "safe" bet and possibly brings something to the table by virtue of being from Virginia. I can't otherwise wrap my head around her perverse treatment of the progressive wing of the party. If she thinks their votes are a sure thing, she might be in for a rude awakening.
I'm very disappointed with the DNC and Clinton. It seems they will do whatever it takes to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I would swallow my misgivings about Clinton and vote for her in a moment if it might help keep Trump out of the White House. But since I live in Louisiana, this state going red in November is pretty much a foregone conclusion. I am seriously considering a third party protest vote for the first time in my life.
