Martin actually had a legitimate reason to perceive Zimmerman as a threat. Zimmerman wasn't a police officer; He was a stranger stalking a seventeen-year-old. Trayvon had every right to defend himself and even "stand his ground" once Zimmerman started approaching him....in theory, of course.
In actuality, there's a belief amongst a certain segment of the population that blacks must automatically defer to to white "authority", regardless of whether or not said authority even actually exists. This idea that blacks who are NOT breaking the law, and simply minding their own business should always be prepared to explain their actions and SUBMIT themselves not only to law enforcement, but to the "authority" of ANY white (or "honorary" white) person who happens to be "concerned" or demanding answers, at any time, for any reason, is about as racist as it gets.
These are likely the same individuals who arrived at the simultaneous conclusions of Martin hitting George Zimmerman as being a brazen act of "nigger" savagery, and Zimmerman shooting Martin as being a tragic, yet unavoidable act of self-defense. To these people, the very notion of a big Black buck feeling threatened and "standing his ground" is just too preposterous to even consider.
