That may be true, but it puts the manufacturers entirely off the hook, doesn;t it. They aren;t empowered to investigate daddy themselves, and could not do so in context even if they wanted to.
That's -our- failure. -Our- unwilligness to enforce our laws, which are on the books, even when the corpse of a kid is right in front of us. Or, I suppose, we could transfer our guilt to an ideologically convenient scapegoat, like we do....and then wonder why he gives all his money to "the other guys"....as though it were an open question or was somehow more explicable by reference to his villainy rather than our apathy and obstructionism.
