Debating in "real life" is much better though because the other person is usually almost always willing to at least hear you out. Often times debates on forums just descend into two people berating other, but not really talking to each other.

I agree. I'll give some forum members my attention until it starts leading into the usual internet bullshittery. That's when I just start sending them meme responses instead. Most face-to-face debates tend to be more civil and sensible, so I can actually have a real conversation. Well, that is unless someone just wants to talk over you. That's when I just walk away.
