Here's an interesting idea. If you had the option to live forever but could opt out at any time, would there ever come a time when you'd say to yourself, "OK, I think I'm ready to die now."? If you were enjoying your existence, what would be your basis for deciding that non-existence would be better? Perhaps if you had done everything there is to do a hundred thousand times and were bored with all of it, or if you were miserable in you existence, you might choose to end it. But I do agree that if you were enjoying your immortal self, you probably wouldn't be too motivated to voluntarily end your life.

I think suicide in a futuristic world where immortality was on offer would be a very irrational thing to consider, let alone commit. Would there not be other, less final ways for you to put yourself to sleep, so to speak, waiting for a more exciting future?
