It does in the context of how it was originally understood and used vs what the telephone game and commercialization has excreted out today.

He spoke the "I am the way..." after the baptism at the Jordan river and that wasn't some albino pigeon taking a holy shit on his shoulder...

His last prayer was for all believers to be one with the Father as he was.

Becoming as he was/achieved/accomplished is the "way". There is no other way to the Father but to be inherited as a Son/Daughter.
