You'll forgive my laughing at you feeling it "necessary" to be honest, as if you have to do it or else ...
And furthermore, you told me previously you didn't know any Americans and were glad for that fact.
Well, I was simply being a wanker, nothing more, nothing less. As for the American, yes, she was a student in another campus doing Political Science (I was doing Environmental Science and Ecology.) She was a bundle of laughs, very pretty, but she used to wear green leggings similar to this:
And I thought, no thanks. Her boyfriend (I guess her husband by now) and I used to go running together and sell Socialist newspapers every Saturday, went to various manifestations in London and many seminars as a group, including a nice little stand-off between us and the Anti-Nazi league. And yes, I have met Tony Cliff (Yigael Gluckstein), Alex Callinicos amongst many others including believe it or not, my old Science teacher..... .
All in all, I left to concentrate on my studies and I regret not keeping in touch with them.
Bold is mine:
Of course I had to do it. It was something that should never have been brought up, let us be honest about that. Whatever happens in other peoples lives rests with them and it shouldn't be used as a tool to get your own back. I hope you can see it from my point of view.
