Yes, I've been thinking about it for a long time, since coming back from Rome last December. I used to listen to the Catholic Answers radio show for a while. They actually kinda turned me off. Catholic culture is still pretty intimidating for me.
Well if you have any questions or just want to discuss philosophy or w/e with some Catholics, I still highly recommend the forum. Even though you didn't like the radio show, I think you'd really get a lot out of the forum discussions!
(PS - it's also important to differentiate between actual/official Catholic teaching and the opinions of people who are Catholic. I wouldn't be surprised if those radio show hosts were more of the traditionalist type Catholics who can be extremely uptight.)
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
