To demean yourself. I mean if you believe you finished school or got a job or managed to pay the mortgage because God helped you, that can only work if you think of yourself as a pathetic individual that even dead white males (such as saints) have more competency then you do. Therefore you perpetually feel owing to Church or the temple.
