Da was what is known in NI as a 'social Catholic'. He attended services and would volunteer for fetes and 'dos', mainly because it was expected of him. In actuality, he was a pretty enlightened agnostic. I know for a fact that he turned down offers to teach catechism and Sunday school, and - as far as I know - never gave money directly to the Church, but would take part in fundraisers for specific causes. He liked to refer to himself as a '...cliff-hanging Catholic. We don't believe in God, but we do believe that Mary was his mother.'
Mum was devout, but not fussed or particularly wonky over it. She didn't think much of John Paul II.
I have one sister who is fairly militant regarding her atheism. My five brothers are Catholics in varying degrees of delusion.
One of my uncles (long since dead) was a Franciscan deacon who taught agronomy at Trinity.
My wife is culturally Jewish and an atheist. Her brother is a reform rabbi.
Both of our cats are Initiates of the Order of Napping All Fucking Day So They Can Be Well Enough Rested To Walk On My Face At Night Wanting To Be Fed. They are extremely devout.
