It really depends on which part of the family you're talking about. Growing up we never went to church, but I was always raised to believe in God and with a general idea what God wanted from me. Mom used to watch the Oral Roberts show regularly. That stopped when he sent her a small package of wheat or something, with a letter saying to pray over it and tell God your needs, then send it back with a check and he would personally pray over it to see that you got what you needed. She knew a scam when she saw it back then.
Then when I was about 14 they returned to their old Pentecostal church for some reason. I think we moved back into town, so it was less of a chore to get there, especially in the winter. For at least much of the time before that we lived at least a few miles from the town where the church was located. I guess that's the first house in town I can remember living in. I do remember being about 12 and living in the country. Childhood is a blur to me, though. My whole life, really. I only realized a few years ago that most people have vivid memories of their past. I never have. It's all random flashes for me, almost like I'm remembering a story someone else told me. Kind of sucks, now that I know it's not normal.
I joined the church for a few years, as did many of my siblings, nieces and nephews at various points. Both sisters, at least 1 of 5 brothers, most of their kids and 1 of my 4 kids attended services at some point. I was already an atheist by the time my kid went, and that was to make mom happy. It stopped real fucking quick when he came home crying because we were going to Hell because we didn't go to church. Never again. He was about 6 at the time, so about 13 years ago.
We still let our kids attend services whenever/wherever they want. This has happened with both daughters as they attended to appease friends. We talk openly about being atheist and even most of the kids make fun of magical/religious thinking. Just the youngest, just turned 11, still attends a service once a week with her best friend. The service seems to be "fun for kids" more than indoctrination. Either way, it's her choice. I'm not going to stop her from attending, but neither am I going to dance around her delicate feelings and pretend magical thinking isn't stupid. Not that I have had to.
Currently only my mom attends church, that I know of. I did have a brother whose wife was Jehovah's Witness for a while. And I do have one nephew who's crazy (literally) religious. We're talking real end of days shit on his Facebook posts. Dogs and cats living together and all that. It's a long story, but he was dating a crazy bitch (again, literally), moved to a different state with her because we didn't respect her enough to make her stop cutting herself all alone in the room she painted blood red, broke up with her and started going to some freaky church which appears to be similar to Westboro Baptist. He and mom are the only two religious ones I know of now (dad passed more than a decade ago).
Mom is very religious, but non-confrontational. She's easy going and loving. She doesn't push her beliefs, she doesn't argue, she didn't push for me to get married in the church, the first morning, when I was still living with the parents, when my then-girlfriend, now wife came down the stairs with me from my bedroom she cheerfully said "Hi" to me and just pretended my girlfriend didn't exist for half an hour. After about half an hour it was "best mother-in-law-to-be ever", like usual. The only time she even mentioned it was when she told me that pastor told her to kick me out of the house and she responded that it was none of her business. Best mom ever too.
But to read their Facebook posts, that's a WHOLE different story! According to Facebook they're all the most religious dumbfucks on the face of the planet. Even my sisters, who are both generally pretty intelligent, become knuckle-draggers on Facebook. Mostly, I think, because they're stupid enough to get their news from Facebook, which is more bullshit than Fox News. At least Fox tries to pretend to it can withstand a fact-checking. They're currently all pissed off over how Muslim Obama is and how he wants to tear down America or some stupid shit. I mean, come on. The guy did try to get health care for the poor, so he's obviously a pure evil people-hater. It's funny how pretty much all fake news targets the right. It's almost as if the left is somehow, maybe, too smart to fall for it, generally speaking.
But that's not really religion related...well, this time of year it often is, what with the war on Christmas raging on and all. Which, by the way, I just found out we lost! Fucking Starbucks caved on the cups! I KNEW that was going to fuck us! So...I guess that means the war on Christmas is over and we won't hear Bill O'Fuckface talking about it next year at all. That will be nice.

Have you ever noticed all the drug commercials on TV lately? Why is it the side effects never include penile enlargement or super powers?
Side effects may include super powers or enlarged penis which may become permanent with continued use. Stop taking Killatol immediately and consult your doctor if you experience penis enlargement of more than 3 inches, laser vision, superhuman strength, invulnerability, the ability to explode heads with your mind or time travel. Killatoll is not for everyone, especially those who already have convertibles or vehicles of ridiculous size to supplement penis size.
