You know, the "love the sinner, hate the sin" people are actually worse than the out and proud homophobes. At least the people calling gays an abomination are up front about their hate, their prejudice and their need to discriminate.
The other crowd are just as bad, they hate gay people, they want to do them down. But for two reasons they cover this ugliness with a patina of faked concern, firstly because the pretence makes them feel good about their hate and bigotry, "I don't really hate them, just the stuff they are too weak to resist doing", and secondly to pile a layer of shame on the victims of their attempts to stop people from being who they are "...and if they are so weak, then they need help to ensure that they commit no more evil and damn themselves".
It's a powerful duology, the only problem being that we now know the abrahamic god is an evil and immoral apparition, created from the very worst depths of the human psyche, and in the words of Terry Pratchett "it is our duty to show that we are his moral superior".
