Only problem is the Aztec sacrifices weren't unwilling victims. They were actually honoured and were only too eager to be the star of the show. I don't imagine there's too many modern religiosos who would understand that concept.
Willing or unwilling... 10,000-80,000 people is still a lot of suffering. Most of them may have been deluded enough to WILLINGLY suffer enormously but they still suffered enormously.
