Scare quotes apparently indicate irony or indicate a phrase the person making the statement doesn't agree with.
I don't see how irony or whether or not phrases used within the statement make it any more correct. Unless there's another way of using scare quotes I'm unaware of.
I don't know much about scare quotes so just genuinely asking this question, how do they make the statement anymore correct and is there another usage of them that I'm unaware of?

It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to.
