As LP mentioned before the romantic dinner/ thumb in butt came up, cognitive behavioral therapy is a good place to start. You don't necessarily need to pay to see a professional for this either.
I have a great book on my bookshelf - "Feeling Good - The New Mood Therapy" by David Burns, M.D. I haven't read it in awhile but I just looked through it and I may read it again. It talks about depression and anxiety - both often go hand in hand as you probably know. It gives very practical advice and I recommend it.
