I think you've pretty much summed it up in the original post. God is whatever his followers want him to be. Ask liberal Christians what God is like and he comes of as kind of a decent guy. Ask Republicans and God hates abortion and Muslims. Ask the WBC, and God hates gays and just about everything else, except of course the Phelps family. Ask Muslims, and God hates infidels and for women to be uncovered in public.
If it seems I'm focusing too much on the hate, well, there's not much else to differentiate between the different gods people worship. They all hate something, and it always seems to coincide with what the followers tend to hate.
