I definitely think it's both... looks and personality... and that the two have a kind of symbiotic relationship; looks cause assumptions to be made about personality, and vice versa. Sometimes you can be attracted purely on character... such as on here where I'm just basically talking to a bunch of avatars... but nonetheless feel attraction to certain people, despite not knowing what they look like. And sometimes in those cases, it doesn't matter if they turn out... when they post a pic of themselves... to look completely different to how you imagined them... still attracted. So I think looks and personality are highly interwoven mentally, even if it looks like they're not.
