Well, I think what you say is sound. On the one hand, if sex only happened within the confines of marriage, STD rates would go down (granted, many STDs have non-sexual transmission routes). On the other hand, even in the days when society enforced the laws of the Bible, sex was never completely confined to marriage, no matter what the legal consequences may have been.
