Like it or not, there's a value in the distinction. Spiralling off to the extreme on either end of the political spectrum not only garners more criticism, it engenders suspicion. If I know someone is hard-right or hard-left, I naturally question whether or not they've imbibed the thinking of the group they cotton to.

I'd rather have as President someone whose liberalism doesn't involve exporting bombs by USAF same-day delivery. Her conservatism was misplaced.
