"The new law lets individuals obtain permits through means other than the eight-hour training course mandated under the previous law. These other means include any NRA firearms- or safety-training course and a hunter-education course administered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department."
Negative. No permits necessary, period.
I have to laugh when you suggest that, due to my distaste for guns, I would not be a good deputy these days. I didn't like them when I carried them. I owe zero respect to people because they own guns. That is typical 2nd Amendment fundie BS, and not much different in its silliness than religious babble. I respect people as people. Gun nuts, who feel the need to collect things designed to kill people, earn no cred from me. If you want to go hunting and need a few specialized rifles, cool. If you live in Alaska and need bear protection and so carry a .357, cool. But if you feel the need to arm yourself just to go out into the working world, sad. For every gun that "saves a life" in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, there are multiple guns that are discovered by children, subsequently ending an innocent life, multiple guns which are turned against owners who do not practice in live fire situations regularly, and multiple incidents such as happened to the character described in the initial link.
