Progressive group slams, abandons campaign in Virginia

Democratic candidate Ralph Northam has been dealt a blow just days before Virginia’s election for governor, after a leading progressive group withdrew its support and slammed his campaign as “racist” and “morally debased.”

And what was his "crime?"

Northam has been leading Republican rival Ed Gillespie in the polls, with indications that he has been energizing key groups of voters opposed to President Donald Trump. However, he has been facing backlash from the left after stating on Wednesday that he would sign a bill to ban sanctuary cities in the state.

Oh my.  So instead they would rather hold their breath until they turn blue because "we can't get EVERYTHING we want as soon as we want it."  If they let this Trump-class fucktard Gillespie win the least of their fucking problems will be "sanctuary cities."

It's really just a guess. From where I've traveled through there, the western side of the state is smaller, more wooded and rural, and largely republican. The eastern side has a larger land mass which is far and above more populated, and largely democrat. Hell, if they'd vote for Clinton, they'll go for any governor that's a democrat. Not much of a question to it.

Another example of a dem courting the mythical middle by attempting to appeal to racist loons who aren't going to vote for him anyway.  When are they going to learn that a grenade isn't a gift?

Complain about the voters, sure...but it just doesn't work, and that's on the person who thinks that maybe..just maybe..this time...it will. This time, confetti and willing voters will pour out when the thing goes off.

Virginia doesn't even HAVE any sanctuary cities. I think Northam's strategy here is to kill the fearmongering by Enron Ed who's main ads are "MS13!", "OUR CONFEDERATE STATUES!" and "CHILD SEX OFFENDER GOT VOTING RIGHTS RESTORED!" (Of course this ignores the fact that a lot of those MS13 members are born in the US. It also ignores that the guy who had his voting rights restored... had them restored for an entirely different crime.)

I don't think it's a good strategy, but I don't think his strategy is to appeal to racists either.

Who do you think is worried about sanctuary cities that don't exist......? LOL< it;s an appeal to racists. Racists are voters too. I'm sure..that in a political strategists mind, they want to appeal to the voter, not necessarily the racist....but it's not like you can wrench the one out of the other.

If Northam had pledged to protect "our heritage", who would he be appealing to? Statue enthusiasts?

Politicians (and american politics in general) are in a tough spot. They need the votes, I'm sure that many politicians would rather not have to appeal to bigots to get them..but massaging their bigoted fears perpetuates the dilemma they find themselves in by legitimizing those bigoted fears in the first place.
