The only thing that matters as far as law are is the CONTRACT you swear to called "THE OATH OF OFFICE", that is a LAW, the only law, and even then you are not forced to hold public office. If you CHOOSE to hold public office then and only then are you required to agree to that oath. No different than CHOOSING to rent an apartment. 

Rituals are NOT forced on us, nor should they be. If you want forced ritual and blind loyalty try North Korea.

Forced ritual are the demands of despots and dictators, not that of a free society.

Protesting inequity is not saying one hates the country. It is saying you want the country you live in to live up to better standards. 

Demands of blind loyalty isn't patriotic, it is fascist.
