My checkbook balanced went it should not have.

It was the strangest thing -- I misrecorded one transaction and forgot another, and yet, my Microsoft Money program said that my account had balanced.  Of course, the two errors canceled exactly to produce a positive result!  And, I could not help but wonder that in an ocean full of chemicals without any predators how a simple mistake could not have given rise to something positive!
