The history of christianity is filled with wars and blood. Not unlike the old testament. Even Jesus said he comes to bring sword, instead of peace. We don't really have to go too far back to find people preaching christianity while committing atrocities. You can claim they're not true christians, but that doesn't really solve the problem. The fact is, people in power, who believe in the bible, have done many atrocious things.
Equal rights for all seems to be a pretty big example for something, that is not acceptable to your god, that a civilized society needs to function properly.
You've given a few examples. And the issues are all blended into one, not that I blame you for that at all.
We have the ancient Jewish political system, if we can call it that - which was OK, but the leaders abused their power - no surprise there at all.
We have God saying to these "stiff necked" people, that they can have their slavery and divorce laws, even though God did not want them in the first place.
How do you deal with a whole nation of waywards who are surrounded and influenced by nations even worse?
Then Jesus brings the sword and not peace - there is no peace for the wicked world, and BTW he pays for their sins...instead. A surgeon's knife is meant to be sharp.
Christians committing atrocities?
The Catholic church according to the Bible became the antichrist, and so are any other systems that became like her, like the C of E.
It is a classic error to mix up true Christianity with false religion. People who died for our freedom are not the same as those who burned them at the stake.
At face value, what you are saying is right, the world is filled with atrocities committed by people who should know better. And as the thread goes, the world isn't short of hardcore fanatics who would like to have civil power and rule like the Papacy did for 1260 years. Like some people out of Westboro Baptist church.
But on the other hand, those who stand up against immorality are also labelled as hardcore. So we have to be careful not to generalise.
