At the same time, assuming a gay person should make their sexuality a higher priority over their broader political philosophy is a bit.... not really sure what word to use. But it's making the individual into just a member of a group. Which I don't like.
The point of this sort of thing is show that conservative ideology can resonate with people who'd normally reject it. It's the same approach as black Republicans -- "our policies aren't racist, we've got blacks in our party."
