About ten years ago, when I was on the Newspeak Dictionary forums, in the wake of Falwell’s demise, I decided (along with another forumer) to work on a death pool for famous fundies. A lot of people had their horses set on Fred Phelps, but I fully expected Billy Graham to be the first to pop off (due to his advanced age and myriad of health problems).
By the time Oral Roberts died (the first one on the list to go), however, there was a big purge and a lot of old members (myself included) got lost in the dust.
Honestly, I can't be too sad. Even putting aside the more unsavory aspects of his character, he was born a few days before the armistice that ended World War 1 and became world famous in the time between then and now. Motherfucker had a good, long, run, and we've been expecting it for well over a decade. No point in mourning him, just a minor disappointment that he didn't keep on long enough to become a centenarian.
