When I have a cold, I make sure there's a box of decongestant/cough suppressant/analgesic all-in-one tablets in the house, either a 12/12 "day/night" box or daytime only, because I tend to go through more of them.
I cut down dairy products or cut them out completely. At the same time, I increase my intake of hot liquids like herbal tea or chicken broth.
To cut down on redness from constant nose-blowing, I use skin cream or a lip balm (one with beeswax works really well) all the way up to the nostrils.
I try at all costs to keep the cold out of my lower respiratory tract, and use mainly expectorant-type cough syrups and/or Mucinex to clear stuff out as fast as possible.
If the cold tablets aren't clearing my sinuses, I break out the neti pot.
And if I have a sore throat, my go-to is to brew an insanely strong cup of orange pekoe tea, and drink it straight.
