How many atheists here had a Catholic upbringing?
#16
RE: How many atheists here had a Catholic upbringing?
I voted yes, but I had a Catholic upbringing in only the loosest sense. I am pretty sure we never went to church outside of Christmas and Easter up until I was 7, and then we moved away from Montreal to Vancouver and the frequency of church visits dropped off significantly.

I went to a Catholic school for Kindergarten and part of grade 1, but that's it.

I became an atheist around 13 or 14 but my Catholic upbringing had no impact on my decision that I can discern. I certainly don't have any negative or traumatic experiences with the Catholic Church. Of course, it's possible I'm simply repressing all sorts of evil things, but I doubt it.

Then again, by the standards of most theists, if they can't prove my local priest didn't molest me, it's fair game for me to lump him in with all the other pedophiles Wink
