Quote:Now I'm going to make some inferences from this data. You can tell me if you agree.
- Induced abortions usually result from unintended pregnancies, which often occur despite the use of contraception (CDC).
- In 2008, 51% of women having abortions used a contraceptive method during the month they became pregnant. (AGI).
- 9 in 10 women at risk of unintended pregnancy are using a contraceptive method (AGI).
- Oral contraceptives, the most widely used reversible method of contraception, carry failure rates of 6 to 8% in actual practice (NAF).
If 51% of abortions in the U.S. in 2008 where despite the use of contraception, then I'm going to assume that 49% had sex without the use of contraceptives. Do you disagree with this? Do you think that some percentage of that, should include those who abstained from sex?
I agree, that just saying not to have sex if you are not prepared to have a resulting child, doesn't result in less unplanned pregnancies. It has to actually happen. People need to realize that they are responsible for what happens from one's actions (whether intended or not). That you cannot just kill a human being to cover up for your indiscretions. If you are willing to kill someone to not have a child, then you should not be having sex.
You are granting yourself the necessary assumption that a fertilized egg is a human being in order get to ‘therefore, abortion is immoral’, without even attempting to justify it at all. It shouldn’t come as a suprise to you that this proposition is highly disputed, lol. That’s where the dialogue should begin, rather than getting hung up on the sex. It is unrealistic, irrational, and frankly, unnatural to expect human beings to abstain from sex out of fear of pregnancy. The data support this. You have your head in the sand if you think abstinence is how we will finally solve the issue of unwanted pregnancies. It’s never going to happen. I’m not saying we should be flippant about abortions, RR. And, I’m not saying there is no such thing as personal responsibility. But you don’t get to just declare abortion wrong and sit back with your arms folded.
In my opinion, people who argue, “it’s always immoral” or “it’s always moral” are shutting down dialogue rather than opening it up.
Right hand dominance?! I’m calling bs on that. My son’s pediatrician and his OT therapist told me children don’t show consistent hand dominance until 3-4 years of age, lol. I will need to fact check that. As far as the rest, yes, the beginnings of those systems are in place, but they are rudimentary. I’ve had two kids, RR. I’ve read THE baby book probably more times than you have read the Bible. 😝
