Yeah it's like someone in the corporate world destroying the environment for profit because it's their job. Or someone turning on the taps at the gas chambers. Life becomes a lot easier if you're just following orders and don't have to worry about the consequences of your actions. I think Lucy landed the prime job!
That really is one of the more poetic failures of christian mythmaking. They turned him into an antihero....a flawed but promethean character.
Part of that was baked in from the start, as a significant set of christianity actually did associate jesus -as- lucifer, a god that was here to save us from the character in the OT. It was their sects idea to have a gospel in the first place, and while the nascent church decided to kill them, it kept their books and imagery, lol.
