Sorry, but there is no slippery slope to be found with letting gays to marry.
Marriage, at least in the US, is a legal contract. Can a toaster consent to enter into a legal contract?
Why shouldn't 2 consenting adults of the same sex be allowed to enter into a legal contract with each other?
The legal contract portion of marriage is completely separate from the religious ritual of marriage.
Only the legal contract portion is necessary to get married in the US. The religious ritual is completely optional.
If churches, temples or mosques do not want to marry people of the same sex, I completely support their decision.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
