Really? So, those document you have to get from the courthouse before you can get married are just for fun and not legally binding in any way? You can just skip that part if you want? I'd love to see the tax audit for the asshole who claims to be filing as married when he doesn't have the documentation to back it up. Marriage is a legal institution in this country, Steve, not a matter of opinion. It doesn't matter if it became one 10,000 years ago or yesterday. You don't get to just declare yourself married and get all the legal benefits, not even in common law marriage jurisdictions.
For fuck's sake, you'd think the chuckle-fuck arguing against changing the definition of marriage would actually understand what marriage is.
I know definitions are difficult with some segment of AF, but this is stupid. Driving a car is a legal institution? Owning a gun is a legal institution? Owning a car is a legal institution? Changing the plumbing in your house is a legal institution? Buying a house is a legal institution? Owning a dog is a legal institution? To be able to trailer a wide load is a legal institution? The most you have is recently-speaking, the government likes to keep records.
