Most religions are insanely violent, in thought, deed, or both. It puzzles me that people so often single out Islam.

What about WW1 and WW2 because of the tribal competition? It didn't involve religion for the most part, wish for wealth caused it.
What about it? I don't think the claim is being made that all violence stems from religion.
