The obsession with exactly two levels

Let me pose a further question:

If we are in fact a manifestation of a process in another level, are we "real"? It's a question I've pondered a lot over the last few years. My answer at the moment is that we're no less real than if we are no such manifestation; and that trying to formally define what is real is an exercise in futility.

In other words, "things are as real as they appear to be, to any particular observer". It's a mantra I came up with a while ago, and I haven't improved on it since.
