Let's pretend that vaccines can cause autism, but that they do so at a rate lower than the chances of your kid dying without the vaccine.
Would you vaccinate your kid under these circumstances? Is this an accurate portrayal of an anti-vaxer's situation, as they see it?
Let's say we shift the numbers a bit (I'm just going to make it up) so that a vaccine:
-Has a 0.001% chance of stopping your kid dying
-Has a 0.003% chance of giving your kid autism
Would you apply the vaccine now? If so, how much further would you push these numbers and still apply it?
