You of all people should be very, very careful of using the phrase 'not the point'.

No, the thread was asking why we bother. I didn't miss that point.
I am merely saying that we really have no choice at this point. I would love to go back to the days where nuts were simply passed by on the street and ignored. I was adding to the fact we have no choice but to respond, isn't a matter now of changing hearts of his base, but to act as empowerment to those who know he is a vile bully, and to get moderates and independents who are on the fence to see him as too toxic to support.
So for the moderates and independents willing to hold their nose and take the win despite everything he has said and done vilifying entire races and religions and kissing up to dictators, if they don't want that response, then they should grow some balls and stand up to the fucker.
What is the semantic difference between 'the futility of...' and 'why we bother to...'?
But if smaller words make you comfortable, ok. The point of the OP was that we shouldn't bother reasoning with Trump supporters. My point was that this paints with too broad a brush, as the OP characterized all Trump supporters as essentially the same, a claim which is unjustified. You replied to this point by saying some Trump supporters should stand up to other Trump supporters (a stance I don't necessarily disagree with), which wasn't my point.
You have a habit of replying to things no one said and of attempting to refute points no one has made. You should really try to stay more on point with your replies.
