Resisting without violence was a charge that I went to court once. Well, the judge just slapped me on the wrist, made me pay a fine and told me to fuck off.

Depends on the state. In Florida, it's a first degree misdemeanor (one step below a felony). Penalty is up to one year in jail, one year of probation, and a $1000 fine.
