Well, the Mormon Church acknowledges it's break from mainstream Christianity and recognizes itself as "something different".
If OP wishes to improve upon the faith by omitting or ignoring that which he doesn't like, making up some new stuff as he goes along, and then slapping the label of "Christianity" on it, then fine with me. I'm well aware that his hypothetical new denomination wouldn't be the first or the last to do as much.
It's still pandering, nonetheless. In which all denominations do to varying degrees, of course.
Though there is much in the Bible that is subject to debate, the God of Abraham's position on the submission of women in the home and in the church is crystal clear. Departures from that aren't simply matters of interpretation or tastes, in the minds of serious religious folk. Lol...it's open defiance.
I tend to agree with them. In accordance to the "Good Word", they've definitely got a leg to stand on.
