Those gun laws are barely enforced at all anyway, and yet the NRA fights ANY potential laws from passing tooth and nail, especially if they're likely to actually help solve crimes. See #4 for a good argument for exactly why the "Gun owner registry" the NRA is actually a damn good idea (Fun fact: it turns out that if a guy gets shot with, say, a Glock Model 17, in, say, Knoxville, and the Knoxville PD have the name of everyone in the area who owns a Glock Model 17, they can narrow down the suspects in that case considerably. You can substitute any model firearm or municipality of your choice, and, honestly, the rarer the gun, the more you can prove my point.)
