In a sense, by not paying taxes, churches are indeed paying their 'fair share' - they are paying what the law requires. Atheists may not like it (I certainly don't), but they aren't doing anything illegal or unfair: they are paying what the law requires. That it happens to be nothing (in most cases) doesn't make it unfair.
Would you extend that restriction to people who don't make enough money to pay taxes in the first place? If you get a tax refund, should that curtail your legal rights?

Yeah I understand the legal concept. I just think they should be paying for the things we all have to help pay for. And if they want government to stay away from their religion (unless it's endorsing it) then they should look for assistance elsewhere when two sects get into a pissing contest. They either want government intervention or they don't.
And, no, we don't get a tax refund. The government uses our money tax free through the course of the year and then wants more. Luckily this year the amount of 'more' wasn't painful.
