I used trig just yesterday to calculate the minutes of angle I was within when shooting at targets. 2 Moa. That's the size of a horsefly, at 50 feet. I need to improve.
I can stick out my tongue and touch my nose. That's a pretty useless ability.
That' s about 3/8 inch group at 50 ft. Damned decent for a rifle offhand --- world class - better than current records offhand with a handgun.
That would be all exes on shooting NRA slowfire Bullseye...
I'm shooting at A32 targets. The 10 ring is 3/8" diameter. I'm shooting bench rest only. Marksmanship requirements for offhand are much less stringent, of course, but I'm not doing the other disciplines. I've discovered a couple of things that may help increase accuracy, which I'll work on at the next range visit. Distinguished Expert for small bore (.22 rim fire) rifle is 10 complete targets (each have 5 bulls and 1 bull used only for sighting) with a minimum score of 191/200. I'm currently shooting 196+/200 so I just need to have someone witness it. Here are some sample targets from last Sunday afternoon. This is using CCI SV round nose lead slugs. This is the best I've found so far. It's good enough to get me here without buying a match grade barrel and ammo.

When Gordon Liddy (famed government employee and psychopath) was with the FBI, he claimed that at 50 feet, he could fire five rounds, reload, and fire five more, placing all 10 shots in an area he could cover with the palm of his hand, in just under six seconds. With a revolver.

I get 4" groups at 25 feet with a Weaver stance and a lot slower shooting, but I'm not the FBI by any stretch. That's with a Smith & Wesson .357 Highway Patrolman model with a six inch barrel. If I shot it more often, I could probably improve, but at my age I'm not going to try for that kind of speed.
