The threat of hell is not corrective as an motif, it is a threat of revenge for lack of loyalty. In modern reality our morality is far better in the west. If I disobey my parents as a kid, they are not allowed to beat the shit out of me. If a wife or girlfriend want to leave their boyfriend, they cant beat the shit out of her or murder her.

The God character is a reflection of the authoritarian rule most humans in antiquity lived under.
