In fairness to the many many atheists who try not to dumb things down, many people think it's too simple to reduce complex historical issues to simple labels, and hope to avoid "us vs. them" views of the world.
I was referring to the tangential subset of dummies. We could have a nuanced discussion about history. Maybe the Christians were less cruel than the Romans, that sort of thing.
But as far as I'm concerned, it really is "us vs. them" when it comes to the religious right in modern America. These folks are trying to influence our government (and succeeding at it). I don't want to destroy their religion, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to stand in their way.
