I know that death is frightening, but my mother has been dying for six months and hasn't shed a tear. She knows she'll be with her dead family and god, the god she believes in, who is loving and kind. She is starting to see her aunt, who passed away a long time ago. That comforts her. I'll tell you what, I'm quite happy for her faith now that she's at the point of death. It has given her a coping mechanism that is deeply ingrained in her psyche. For her, Heaven awaits her. It's a beautiful thing. There isn't a single ounce of harm in it.
How do you feel about finding comfort in faith while dying? Please don't use my mother's situation as an example. I'm bound to take debate about it personally.
People find comfort in different things, I for example, find comfort in the fact that there is a definite end to life, so I can enjoy my life while it lasts, and once I die, I'll get to rest. Being forced to live on eternally is what scares me actually, no matter how pleasurable you imagine it to be, eternal pleasure would get boring real fast and that boredom is gonna last eternally... unless there are regular memory wipes, in which case eternal life is pointless.
If your mother finds comfort in faith there's no harm in it, and I don't think what one believes for comfort, in life or death, should be a point of debate unless it is affecting others.
