I understand that innocent people get executed, but that doesn't change the fact that innocent people are convicted, and still must face life in prison. If the appeals process fails to free innocent men, then those innocent men are still going to die in jail, and if it were me, I would see death as merciful.
It would be especially merciful to innocent people, since they are innocent, and don't deserve the punishment of 23 hour a day lock down.
I do think that execution should be reserved for people whom commit the most heinous crimes, and that all others should be rehabilitated, if possible, and then released. I believe more money should be spent on helping offenders get their lives straight, through education, job-training, therapy, etc.. and less money spent on keeping people in cells to rot away. It's obviously not working.
I am 100% against life sentences.
