The thing is, what YOU think at that point doesn't matter. Actually what the person in question thinks doesn't matter, either, other than it gives comfort.

Alcoholics and drug addicts find their comfort how they can; it's no different with religious people. Certainly, the ramifications of alcohol and drugs are harsher on the individual than religion, but in the end the comparison stands on its own merit for the very reason that it is a false comfort being employed for the detriment of that person's intellect, associated with an honesty forsaken for a delusional lie, and purposefully adding to a network of theistic notions that cannot separate itself from secular life.
