I think those that would find something to keep them comfortable during death probably would have done so anyway even without religion. Some may take solace in knowing they've left behind an inheritance for their kids/knowing the funeral arrangements are taken care of already/etc. That some delusion about life after the death of your brain, i.e. the very thing that allows you to be conscious, isn't some gold star for religion. It's just another one of their ridiculous delusions that may, sometimes, have positive side-effects for some people. Big whoop.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
