I am not taking that out of context.
NOBODY wants anyone to treat cops as the enemy! But THE BLACK NEIGHBOR, is certainly going to think twice next time knowing he wasn't accusing her of a crime, but wanted cops to check out and make sure a crime was not being committed against her which is what a welfare check is.
Sure as hell sounds like you are saying, "shit happens, but if we don't let that shit happen, nobody will want to be cops."
BULLSHIT ARGUMENT.
We cannot continue to allow a climate of fear to excuse split second death.
I think what OLB means is that bad cops (like the one under discussion) cause people to fear cops. He didn't say that people want cops to be feared, but - more and more - that's becoming a reality because of bad cops.
This strikes me as a perfectly valid point.
Boru
Still not the point.
This guy could be a macho bully, or he could be simply trained to shoot first, and in our current climate that is what most cops are trained to do, assume the worst.
But I am tired of this argument on his part and it is not the first time I have seen this.
LONG TERM CONDITIONS, not one officer, not one case, but conditions.
Some officers get into the job to play tough guy, and others get into it because they honestly want to serve and protect, but the training either way, is to fear first and shoot first. And that needs to change.
