I had no hope at all for Star Trek: Picard as I believed it was to take place outside the the established timeline of the original series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and Star Trek: Voyager. But based on reviews on Youtube, took a trial run on CBS All-Access and watched the pilot myself.
I'm impressed.
I won't presume to speak for any other Star Trek fan as I have come to realize we are addicted to the show for different reasons. I just suggest to any fan of 24th-century Star Trek that you give this a try. It looks very interesting, like it might be a good contribution to the Star Trek universe created by Gene Roddenberry.
1. I thought they might go too dark and cynical and try and make it too gritty thous divorcing it from TNG completely .But likely it stops from going full depressing and i'm happy there is a bit of the old Picard still there
2.I thought they might go way to hard on the nostalgia .But while present it doesn't drown everything out . I like the fact it's telling a new story while acknowledging its roots .
It was a bit rushed but that's too be expected as it has a lot of stuff to establish for a 20 year timeskip from Nemesis .But it isn't overwhelming so it's all good .

Although he's a great actor (and executive producer!), I still feel he's beyond his used by date.Enterprise was alright especially close to the end when Archer is forging alliances .Discovery had a good premise but JJ just doesn't get star trek .
I'll keep watching it. But I must say, I also didn't watch Enterprise but I'm liking Discovery.... a lot!
Each to their own.
