P.S., I actually wrote a short story expanding on it. The wife was removed from the story (except that it turned out the narrator was on the run for killing her) and there was only one angel. Plus, I added a scene where a hotel maid tried to interrupt and got her cart impaled by a sword. It ends with him getting arrested. Also, he's explicitly stated to be very sleep-deprived.
